Once I found out I had yesterday off, I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to use the gift certificate that Jason won for 4 man fluke charter aboard Capt Bob's Sandy Hook Fishing Adventures. Jason asked me if I could ask both Ron & Greg V. to join us and they were both more than happy to.
Started off fishing Sandy Hook Channel. The west wind coupled with a strong outgoing tide made for a fat drift with 8 ounces just barely getting the job done. I think I ad 2 shorts on the first drift both coming off a teaser above a 6 ounce Spro. Made another 2 drifts with each drift having 8 ounces hold slightly better. FYI, noticed numerous pods of bunker but with nothing harassing them. But with no great action, we made a move down the beach.
Made a few drifts off the nude beach with a dozen or so shorts for our efforts. made another move further south (on the way spotting several pods of working birds). Finally stopped off Monmouth Beach and once again it was all short fluke & sea bass. At this point we noticed a rain shower to our south so instead of moving in that direction we moved further off shore. Started working some rough bottom near a lobster pot and finally located a few keepers. Had a few productive drifts before we got rained upon. Bite held through the rain. Once the rain stopped we still managed to pick a few but the bite seemed to be over. Moved to the north for one final drop but once again although we had action they it was all from shorts.
Not sure how many fluke in total we boated but we ended up with 6 keepers (Greg & Ron each accounting for 2 with Jason and myself taking 1 apiece). I believe Greg also took a keeper sea bass. Pretty much everything was caught on either a bucktail or teaser. Jason did drag bait for a while and took some fish before switching to a bucktail.
