Had Bob Cole, Ralph, Andy, Lenny and John B on board today. We were entered in my marina's fluker tournament. Thirty two boats in the tournament and eighteen boats entered in the calcutta.
There was little wind and no drift first thing out.
We wanted some big fish today so we started in deep water fishing off the Pinta wreck. No results there so we moved north to Tarpon Lump. Another goose egg on the fluke but we did get some big seabass there. Moved north again to another hill. Got some shorts and more seabass.
Finally made it to the snake area. Some more shorts. Decided to go deeper in the same area so we moved out some. Great move. Five minutes into the first drift thru this area brought a 7.2 pound fluke into the boat. This was caught by John B. Made several more drifts in this area but only brought in one more keeper.
The wind started to pick up so we decided to start making our way back toward our inlet. We were going to stop on a few spots on the way in but the wind brought 4-5 foot seas with it and too fast of a drift to make it worth while. Made our way back to the marina for weigh in.
At the end of the weigh in our fluke held up for first place. Second largest entry was six plus pounds.
We took first place in the tournament and won the calcutta. The best prize of all for winning the tournament is bragging rights for the season as the big dog fluking boat.
