Hunter 2- Raritan Bay Fluke Monday July 13, 2009
« on: July 13, 2009, 05:46:54 PM »
I just started a 4 week vacation so I head out solo today towards the triangle near round shoal.  The weather was perfect but drifting was slow. I caught a few shorts in the area and made a move by the E buoy. Not much luck in that area. I head out a bit to the red #18 buoy in the raritan reach channel. I saw a huge sea turtle come up for a breath of air. I had a steady pick of Fluke with only one keeper and a couple of dogs. I was using Spearing and squid strips on a Bucktail with a teaser above and the other pole had a pink rubber squid with double hooks in it that I won at the NJSWF party donated by Irish Ayes Joe. That setup caught plenty of fish today.  chrz  I attached it to a fishfinder rig.  I had to be home by 1pm to get my daughter from camp. I invited her and her friend Mahoro who are both 8 years old for a short trip. We picked up some snacks and head out to the same spot. Mahoro has never fished saltwater and she has never been on a boat bigger than a canoe.  So I set up the rods for them and they are singing to radio Disney music on the Sirius radio when the action started.  We landed some more short Fluke and a medium Skate that they were excited about. When the snacks were gone they wanted to come home to swim in the pool.  They had a ball and just kept saying drive faster,, faster,,  :P    Anyway,, It was a nice day on the water and I am glad the girls had fun.  And they are still in the pool.
