Had some business to attend too in Hazlet this AM and planned on fishing the incoming for a short day. Got a call from Capt Don jr on my way to the appointment said he was checking in... told him my plan, that was heading out around 11 so I extended an invite. Needless to say he jumps on the opportunity. Says he needs to square away a few things at the shop first. He tells the crew he's off to get stamps..... well you know how those lines are at the post office
funny we couldn't find any Post Office in either of the channels....
My meeting went way over and he hung tight at the marina watching all the bait flashin around through the turn of the tide. I picked up a new umbrella net from T-bone with the prospect of dropping it in a low and making life a whole lot easier than netting with the Pnut net. You guessed it the Shrews starting to fill up and began ripping. We were back at it with Pnut net and managed to get enough bait for a couple of hours with 5 throws.
Can't seem to get eyes on the nutz so these spearing have been the junk. Left port at 1:00.
Made way to the promised land. Seen AJ on the way out while he was searching for bunker. Immediately began drifts over the same marks from earlier in the week. Turns out the fish decided to cooperate. Boxed 4 nice fish. 18" (2) 21", and 23.5". Called it quits at 3:45. Skies looked a little threatening with some light rain starting to show. Left the fish biting and made it home to get dinner with the wife and kids.
Nice to get out with you Don. Thanks for the vittles and beverage! Till next time
