Sat 7-18 Navesink Crabbing....
« on: July 18, 2009, 08:42:34 PM »
Launched AH at noon and took a ride with the family down the Navi. Just past the hospital, incoming, on the channel edge. Crabbing was lights out!
NOT consistent. Blues came in bunches. 2-3 in a trap or on the handline, then it was dead for 10 minutes or so and it lit back up again.
Amazed they were all in the same 5-6" size range and 95% jimmies. NO shorts at all. Culled through 30 or so in 3 hours taking a dozen of the largest for the pot.
River from the Oceanic on back LOADED with jelly's! Took a few pics, I'm sure someone can identify them?
Guiness and Old Bay crab boil - off to the fluking grounds in the A.M.

is the navasink where you go through highlands bridge and make a right, or keep going straight under the second bridge, then make the right.. I get the shrewsbury and Navasink confused.

When you are going south under the Highlands bridge you are on the Shrewsbury, at the fork in the river the Shrewsbury continues straight and the Navesink bares to the right

First bridge you see is the Oceanic.  Also good crabbing here on the eastern side of the bridge at the north end.
After the Oceanic, BE CAREFULL!  If you have never been down this way, there is a good 1 1/2 to 2 mile stretch w/o a channel marker.  Follow your chartplotter and you should be good.
