Friday Nite Blues
« on: July 19, 2009, 09:11:12 PM »
OK, as some would know from my intro page, was off to CockRobin for a nice evening of fishing....well....got to support the Capt. in his decision to ship us off to "Insert The Name" party boat due to too few patrons!  LOL(No reason to advertise the competition right??LOL)  Left from Brielle(Well that gave it a away!) at about 7:45 PM to DEEP FOG!  Traveled north to what seemed to be off of lower end of Highlands, never could see from the fog, dropped the hook, half an hour and not a nibble to be had!  Pulled the hook and 2 1/2 hours later we stopped with maybe 3 other party boats...NO IDEA where we were but once lines hit bottom, all hell broke loose.  My son brought in the first of the boat, was easily 12 pounds, from then on fish were flying!  Now mates and capt.'s alike told of the rather slow days they have had recently....um...NOT FRIDAY NITE!! Seems we anchored over a nice spawning ground, how do I know??  Use your imagination when the green horn next to you complains of the bluefish "peeing" on him.  That white stripe really accented his shirt and pants!! LOL  All in all left with 15 fish for my son and I and boat seemed to be mostly limits across the board, arrived at dock at 5AM and made the short jaunt back to home to finally pass out at 7AM.  Twas a nice trip, calm seas, fog dissipated a little as nite wore on and fishing was superb, all was on the chum and dropping cut bunker, like I used to remember blue trips being, covered in slime, blood and chum!

Yeah.  I haven't done a PB bluefish trip in a while.  Might be time! t^

I went once and NEVER again...at least not a PB!  Just not my style of fishing.  I'll stick to the sand for them.

I organized a charter boat for Blues back when I worked for Toys R Us, and it went pretty well.

We chartered the Miss Michelle out of Belmar, kens landing and they were real great people. Captain Ron if I remember correctly was a great host and the mates were great too..

I had the 65' boat with 65 people on it and about 35 got sick right out of the inlet but we had a good time otherwise.

In return to reelnauti, I understand Cap, was not a nite for the Cock Robin as we found out the second we left that inlet, I was on yours ONCE in dense fog years ago with Capt Ron skippering and coming in took WAY TOO LONG for my taste and I am sure for his!  I realize electronics have come a long way over the years and I trust the ocean is a tad cleaner than years ago(I remember very well dodging telephone poles!!) but I also realize that the Cock Robin has always had a LOYAL base.  If I lived closer would be there many times during the season with you, but alas too far way and with the few we had ready to fish, would not have been a feasible jaunt for you nor serching the fish like the Bogans did as their boat I realize travels slightly faster!!  But dern it, I love that old WOOD boat!!  Will see ya soon Cap, planning to sneak down a weekend in August!
