Had some long time friends on board today, Jack Hickman, Mike, his Son Pauly and my Father.
I grew up Fishing with Jack and his Father " Hagar" and this crew with the Hagar II out of Barnegat. A 36' wooded Cris Craft, No GPS. No Radar, and a hummingbird flash depth finder.
Hagar had 9 fingers and only one good eye
Needless to say every trip was an adventure. but he could find the Fish..
Anyway...
Left the dock loaded with bait in search of the Barnegat Keeper Fluke.
Made our first stop at the sail boat wreck.. with no action at all. Moved out to the west of the light house with some action with shorts.. the guys were enjoying catching fish. Young Pauly was loving it.
Left the little biting and headed out the inlet South into a large Long Ground Swell.. after the 8 Mile roller coaster Ride to The GSN. Young Pauly was chumming.. Filled him with fluids and a lot of "That a Boy's" and with in the hour he was ready to fish.
Not a lot of action on the reef in a group of about 20 boats. Boated a fair share of shorts and short Sea Bass.. As the wind started to kick up I decided to head back south to the Barnegat Reef which produced the same results.. shorts shorts and... more shorts.. Around 2:00 the seas were building and the fog was rolling in...
Setup back in the bay for the same action.. shorts..
All in all we had a great time.. talked about all the days on the Hagar II and the Kid had a great time just catching fish.
