Had Bruce Stone, Adam Kaye, Ryan Helmstetter and Chris T. "Crabcake" aboard for a FTYP trip today.
Ran north, fished the stretch from Deal to Monmouth Beach. When we got up there at 730 the W wind was cranking, so we put out the drift sock and drifted around some rocks and picked at shorts along with a few keepers as well as some nice seabass. Once that dried up, and the wind started laying down, we made a few wiggles, and got into a few more fish, but it was mostly slow.
So, I went to some #'s offshore a bit in some deeper water (60') and started working a rockpile out there that has produced in the past. Today, that same piece of bottom didn't disappoint. For the remainder of the trip, we picked and plucked at this spot. One of the first fish that came up was just shy of 7#, and we had a few others in the 3-5# class as well as several keepers come up, with plenty of shorts and a few more seabass added to the mix.
When all was said and done, we boated ~75 fluke, with 18 going in the box, and 9 nice seabass to 2#. Ryan had his limit + 1, Chris and Bruce each had 4, Adam had 3 and I put a few fish in the box as well when I had some time to fish - Adam had the big fish which was just shy of 7#. The bite was pretty good, not red hot, but still a productive day. Great crew, back at it tomorrow!
