9-4 Manasquan Fluking
« on: September 04, 2009, 11:00:01 PM »
Knew it was going to be rough in AM, so se broke the inlet at around 2:30 pm. Seas were 4-6 ft. rollers which were fine. Went to the Sea Girt Reef and fished my brains out until 6:30. Fished the wrecks, barges, tugs, etc- worked from the northern end to the southern end, and even hit the Klondike for a bit. Drift was very slow- .4-.6 knots, we barely moved, wind was real slack. Fished whole squid, mack strips, and used a variety of 3-4oz spros tipped with fluke belly or squid. My Dad and I literally did not get a hit- not a bite. We were fishing the structures, party boats all over, didn;t see a net go in the water. We did all the same thing we did on wednesday, but the results were pathetic. I tried it all-maybe I should have gone up north and tried asbury and the Red Brick Church area. All I can say is that at that time period, it totally sucked- limp drift, slack lines. Beautiful day though, no regrets. Any feedback would be great!

I feel your pain, but after reading your report I don't feel bad about not going to the reef, as that was my alternate plan.I fished Asbury to Long Branch and believe me you didn't miss nuthin'. The water was stained out to about 60', a distinct line. The drift was even different once you moved from the dirty water to the clear. Strange.Couldn't buy keepers on either side though. nosmly
