WTB Handle For A Daiwa BG30
« on: September 08, 2009, 07:26:49 PM »
I broke off the little plastic collar that helps keep the water from getting in.  It's not that I use this reel all that much anymore.  But, if anybody has one of these handles lying around, I'll give you $5 for it. t^

Thanks,
Bob

Bob, I just checked my GS 30 out. On the handle side is a  small cover the size of a bean and the other side has a side cover the size of a nickle. Can we use mine as a guide and maybe  make something up that would do the job??
Let me know if I can be of further help.AJ

AJ, thanks for the response.  The piece I broke is the bell shaped object which is shown below.  I have the one I broke.  I glued it with Plastic Welder a long time ago, but it broke again and it's in 3 pieces now. :P

I appreciate your help.  I think it would be difficult to make one of these.  If I can't get a new handle, I'll just try some more glue and tape. ;D

Thanks again! t^

Bob,

Let me check my old Daiwas.  I had to use 1 for parts to get 1 working.  I don't think it is a BG30, but the handles look similar.  I will look tomorrow and let you know.

Bob, I see the piece you have highlited in the pic.If you can not find that specific piece from some one,a reel repair center or the Diawa Co,maybe a piece of stainless tubing cut to size will fit and do the trick.

Bucktail-

The Daiwa Reel I have is a PS4000BL Longcast.  I don't think it will work.  I just checked the schematics on both reels and they do have different part numbers.  Take a look and let me know if it will work or not.  The handle is in decent condition and just sitting here.

No.  That won't work.  The BG has a threaded handle.  Thanks for checking P-man! t^

AJ.  The problem with the piece (and probably why they don't sell it separately) is that the way it is manufactured you cannot get a new one on the finished handle unless you remove the rivet at the joint of the handle.  That would be a lot of work. :P

The other (obvious) problem is that, on an all metal body reel, they made this piece out of plastic! nts

As I said, I don't really use this reel much any more.  I brought it on the Cock Robin last month simply because it's loaded with 20# mono (and they don't allow braid).  If I can't find an old handle for it somewhere, I'll just use some more glue and tape. ;D

Thanks for the help guys! t^

Bob, Do you think we could drill out the rivet, replace it with a new one or stainless cotter pin after we get some kind of boot on to keep out the water?
Man, I hate to give up on stuff like this;(its the challenge to fix it).

It sounds like an awful lot of work for such an old reel. rgmn
If you really want to try I can maybe mail it to you or something and you can tinker with it. 5hrug

Bucktail you can call Daiwa I think they are in California and they will send you one. I know its cheaper then any of the shops and if it broke when fighting a fish sometimes they send it free of charge. gave the number a search. if you can't find it e-mail Maitailu@aol.com and I'll go look in my paper work and find it,

Thanks Joe.  I have the info for Daiwa.  Last time I called them they wanted like $25 or $30 for it.
At this point it's just not worth it.  Although I do appreciate the help! t^

Thanks B&B.  Just checked that site.  He wants $31.70 for it.

I think I paid $30 for this reel  at one of those Mac's B&T tent sales about 20 years ago.  I can't see myself spending another $30 for a new handle.

Thank you for the lead anyway. t^
