Cock Robin: Fat Alberts 9/23/09
« on: September 23, 2009, 07:43:17 PM »
Got aboard the Cock Robin today for their special bonito and false albacore trip.  "Marsh Hawk" Jerry took the looooong ride up from South West Jersey to get in on the speedster action.  Bill "Reel Nauti" was there.  And I also met up with some folks from another board that I fished with last week.

With our spots secured in the stern, thanks to "JFP" Joe who got there at 3:00am, we were rigged up and ready to go well before the 6:30 departure time.  Weather conditions at the dock were cloudy and muggy.  Almost unbearably sticky. :P  However, once we finally left the dock things cooled off nicely.

Our first couple of drifts produced a few fish here and there.  The action was not really that great until we moved once more and anchored up.  Once the hook was dropped the action improved greatly.  From then on the the action was pretty consistent.  Periods of short lulls were followed by spurts of fast action with four, five and six fish on at once! t^

It rained a bit today, but not for long.  Actually the weather got better as the day wore on, with the sun making itself known by midmorning.

Fish were caught on both metals, plastic and bait.  Our fish were taken on a variety of lures.  Deadly Dick's, Needle Eels, Ava 007s, Tsunamis, Sluggos (and homemade Sluggos), Fin-S, RonZ, and more all worked for us.  JFP had a few follows on his homemade spook, but couldn't get a hook up on it.

It was certainly a great day of fishing! The busting amongst those of us on the stern (as well as with anyone else that got close by) never let up!  And a great time was had by all! ;D

Many little tunny were boated, as well as some monster bluefish, which thankfully only started to become a problem towards the end of the trip.  Once again the bonito were scarce, with only about four or so taken today.

Captain Jim, "Reel Nauti" Bill and the crew of the Cock Robin did a terrific job of putting us on the fish and taking care of their patrons!  Nice job guys!  Thanks for a great day! t^

Yes.  You're correct NJ.  He is a fishing machine! t^

I've never had the tunny.  Judging from what most people say about them, I really don't even want to try them.  Another guy I was fishing with kept some to eat.  He tried some last week and liked it.

Would have kept a couple of bones if I were lucky enough to get into them though. t^
