Called the marine forcast's bluff today and told everyone to come down. Once again...we didn't have a gale, it blew 20 , but what the hell is that this time of year?
What did screw us up was the incoming against.
Had bird life first thing in the morning, set up on some readings and only caught a bluefish and one bass. Got outta there and ran way south...Had three huge area's of bird life, readings were unreal, yet all we managed were Bluefish. Looked in on the jetties, off in deeper water and couldn't manage a Bass, loads of Blues.
Ran back up to the North after the change of tide, very nice ocean, better conditions and just a couple bass on the clams.
Just a note about jigging....yes, we do catch bluefish this time of year, we are certainly looking for bass as they do travel together. If I was that good to seporate them, I'd be rich.....WE ARE A BASS BOAT, that's what we do, Clamming, Jigging, whatever...if you think for a minute I want to run to Long Branch to catch Blues, obviously you don't know Capt.Ron. (had to get that off my chest)...continue..
Back out to the East on more bird life, had fish rolling all around the boat for a mile, yet we would catch one fish here and there, very frustrating to say the least.
Ended the day covering way too many miles and docking close to 4pm with a bunch of blues and 5 keeper bass....2 Scotch night, only cause I gotta take the wife to dinner for her birthday!! Capt.ron
