Hi Young Gull,

I got the crab lure as well. I plan on using the suspender for deep wreck fishing.

Did you get a chance to talk to the guys? They are planning on selling a much smaller crab within 6-9 months. That will be awesome. Almost every fish's stomach has small crabs in them these days!

Did you get any of the natural sense from the booth in the first isle? They look promising as well.

Lefty Kreh is awesome ... his health has improved a lot since the last time I saw him 3 years ago. No wonder he talks about doctors so much.

Best wishes,

Capt. Ed

Hi Young Gull,

Sorry about that ... I modified the post. Must have been the beer (or at least a convenient excuse) LOL.

I have tried to tie crab flies; bought Gulp imitations; and basically tried anything to get the effect of a crab. This may work.

I will fish the "suspender" version off a three way swivel on a 36" leader to start off with. I will soak it for a long time in shedder/peeler crab oil. I am optimistic ... then again, why not be.

Did you get a chance to see Mike Laptew's presentation?

Thanks,

Capt. Ed

Sounds like a great show.... Sorry I missed it but I just got back from a crazy business trip to Dallas and my sons would not be happy with another day away.

Ed did you get those crabs from Tom and crew?  Or the guy that actually invented them?

it was real tough to not spend a crap load of money there. but i stayed strong and kept my wallet in my pants, maybe it was the lack of sleep that helped me out. anyway, if you guys are looking to invest in a st. croix boat rod, do it now!!!!   by next year they will all be imported...

Hi Dennis,

I got them from the guy who invented them. He had all the (many) prototypes on display.

His website is:

http://www.cwcrab.com

They spent over 45 minutes with me. The cool thing is that the show was empty from 10:00 - 1:00 or so. I spent a ton of time with everyone I needed to talk to as well as be able to sit in on the seminars.

I saw Tony and Tom at the show pushing their rods. Can you believe they had rods built on lami blanks. Why didn't we have a shot at them? I will not be going back there anytime soon. Are they selling the crab?

BTW, they had the light and green color as well as the float, suspend and sink models there.

While I am confident they will be deadly in the bay/rivers, I am going to test them for the guys in deep water. I will make sure you are invited when the time comes ...

Thanks,

Capt. Ed

Ed,

Tom had a few of the crabs in his shop while you were on your bus. trip.  He had told me they had many different models available.  I bet those crabs would be deadly with the weakfish.   I was looking at them and thought to myself, they would be even deadlier if you could put a surgical tube inside them somewhere and fill them with shedder oil.

What they should have done was say, here is what you get for the base price, but if you want to upgrade to a better rod blank here's what it will cost.

I got a G. Loomis blank from the guys at Murphy's.  I found out I can order Fuji parts, g. loomis blanks, and I think St. Croix or Lamiglas blanks from them.  I'm going over today to get the catalog.  I also found out we have full access to a 4 rod drier in the back of the shop if we ever need to use it.  I'll give you a ring today and discuss.

Hi D- and Young Gull,

I think I got that right this time (LOL).

There are small "ports" that can be accessed by pulling up on the "legs". I plan to inject scent into the body and have it spill out.

For this lure, we all agreed that you should soak it in peeler (shedder) crab for as long as you can. I also have a paster shedder product I will use to "refresh" the lure.

Dennis - they tested them with Stripers and weakfish as specific targets. We all agreed they would be deadly with many other species, including, but not limited to, permit, blacks, fluke, etc.

If you want some, I will get them to you when my shipment comes in. I have 4 but I ordered a dozen more. I wasn't sure what color/type I wanted so I paid upfront for a bit of quantity for a discount.

Youn Gull - No offense to anyone, as I know that some types of gulp are very succesful. However, I tried a few of the crab products and I must say there did not work a lick. I was hoping they would but my brother and mates outfished me significantly using live crab with togs and sea bass. But then again, maybe they are just better fisherman. I hate when that happens ...

Best wishes,

Hi Young Gull,

I just found something that needs to be corrected from the website change. After that is fixed, you will have it up there.

Thanks,

Ed

Hey guys,

Great time at the show. Great meeting you Catfish and Rob. Catfish...I went with your advice and bought the Calcutta 400B reel for the Shimano pole.

Picked up (2) Penn SL817S poles with the 550SSg reel combo's too.

Wife was happy that I came home with something for her..... ;D
