Did I hear this Correctly?
« on: March 12, 2010, 05:03:45 PM »
In NY waters for 2010 not only will you need the license, but now it's only 1 striper @ 28-40" and 1 over 40"?

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over?
Is this how the license is benefitting me?

That is correct!  Only exception is Charter/Head Boats and North of the GWB on the Hudson.

SWL make fishing GREAT, though...and solve all these problems!!

Wow Didnt hear about it until now but just read it on the dec site.

Weird reg it still dont stop 2 Big cow bass being taken per day. 5hrug

Still cant under stand why no slot fish.

1 small 24-28 and 1 larger???

Saves some big ones and still lets the anglers have a a chance for a smaller better eating fish in the spring and fall.

Getting scary different regs for party and charter boats??? Wow

A slot fish definitely makes more sense to protect the breeder cows. t^

Yes it does make sense. That's why it won't happen. These regulators never make any sense. Must be a job requirement. :P

It doesn't make any sense...and costs you money to try!  Glad the NY SWL fixed all of the problems.  Some great conservation efforts there for your money nosmly rgmn.

Sounds a lot like what Stripers forerver was pushing for in Mass. I guess most members  of  certain fishing groups will be very happy to hear about NY. I had heard talk of some well known fishing groups hoping to get regs like that coast wide. Funny some want slot and some want cows. I guess it all depends on what group you send your dues too.

I don't know why anyone would want to allow more breeders to be caught than juvenile fish.  Funny too, that Stripers Forever would support that being that their survey(for what it is worth) did not support Regulations for keeping larger fish, but smaller fish less than 28"?

Sorry for any confusion I was referring to the over 40" part.  SF or should I type many many many members of SF wanted a 1 fish bag limit.......1 fish 20" to 26" or 1 over 40".   Its great when some fisherman want to restrict others from a healthy fishery. I think if NMFS or the government made this proposal there would be a large out cry and maybe even an OP ED piece on ESPN . ;D

.

To be short in answer Yes you need a NY Saltwater Lic, $15 and can get it on line.

If you are fishing
Raritan Bay or Southern shore along Long Island 1 Fish over 28" up to 40" and 1 Fish over 40"

If you fish from a Charter/Party Boat that is licensed in NY Waters you may take 2 fish 28" and over.

If you fish from a Charter/Party Boat that has a NY Lic. you do not need a Saltwater Lic, the boat has it (just sent my $650 to the wonderful State of NY).

Parts of the Hudson and Delaware River in NY have differant regulations.

Hope it helps t^
