New to site and new to surf fishing

hello all i would like some info. I want to go fishing tomorrow i would like to know best place to go im in pa. i would like to catch stripers. what should i use. i want to go to seaside heights  island beach state park.

Has lots of useful information that will help very much in finding where to throw your line.

Other then that, use small bits of clams on high-lo rigs with small hooks. 6/0 hooks should be sufficient. Good luck.

i have been using 3/0 and 5/0 circle hooks not quite into the the 6/0 and 8/0 yet if you ever need any help with IBSP area let me know im down there on a regular basis

First welcome to the site.  You have found the best and friendliest fishing sites out there.

As far as fishing IBSP, it is starting to heat up out front with a handful of stripers being caught.  Right now the best offering that local B&T's have are clams.  Use small pieces and smaller hooks than usual 3/0 to 5/0 with 5/0's the choice right now.  If you can find or make your own Hi - Lo rig that seems to work the best for now.

Will you be driving on or parking in one of the lots and walking on?

I also will be going out there on Thursday it looks like.

Indeed there are a few bass being caught out front. Most bass have been caught on clams or worms but a few keepers have been caught on plugs as well. It's starting.

thanx everyone for there advice i went out on wed it was very windy to try my new pole and rod. no luck i went down fishermans walk way in ibsp park where you have to pay to go in. first time at park to make long story short i was trying a lure (popper 3ounces) to test it out and the pole cracked (ouch) so i had to go all the way to cabelas (150 miles away) a lesson to be taught. ill try again. i was trying clams no luck. mistakes is the best teacher. ill get as good as you guys are thanks for the tips.

well after driving to cabelas in harrisburg pa through the traffic and thinking. i believe the lure was to heavy i didnt know every pole has a limit on the weight you can you use. so i bout a nine foot tica rod now if this break ill use a tree branch and some wire im not driving ack to cabelas nooo wayyy tooo far.

What size rod did you crack?  3oz isn't that heavy.  Sounds like it might have been a fault in the rod.  If you are going to be fishing IBSP or the Jersey Coast in general, I recommend getting to know the local Bait & Tackle Stores.  They are a wealth of information and rods that are warrantied can be brought right to them.  Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops are great, but always a long ride for most people.

the rod that i cracked was a 11 ft cabela predator i was trying to use a poper while i was casting out i heard a loud crack,  but my tica rod just came n today 9 foot so i should be good. 30lb test power pro braided yellow

That rod is rated up to 3oz, so it should have handled a 3oz popper.  Could have been a fault in the rd.

You should be happy with the Tica.

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL out there!!!  I know you are new to surf fishing, but I don't know what kind of experience you have with the ocean.  With the high winds from the storm, they are forecasting 7-10 foot waves along with higher tides.  The beach is already very unstable from the last storms and the pounding it took this winter.  There is also a lot of debris, large branches and wood in the surf.  Make sure your footing is stable and the waves are clear.  It only takes a split second in surf like this to get knocked down and sucked in the wash.

I am not discouraging you from going, but just be very cautious and aware of the strength the ocean has.  Not to mention how cold the water still is...since you work in Trauma Medicine you are probably well aware of this.
