Could I mount my speakers here?
« on: June 28, 2007, 10:41:10 AM »
Maybe they are even the factory speaker cutouts, I don't know, but would be VERY cool if I could. Bought fishing tape tool so hopfully, fishing the wires won't be too bad if I can use these holes.

they look like they are in the right spot.  Water proof speaker should still stay in somewhat a dry location so they last longer.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

I have infity 602m which seem to be built extremely well.

Think that area should be dry enough?

Im not to familiar with the speaker for boats.  I personaly don't think I can hear music with the noise of the engines running.  AND, I also hate to waste battery life when the boat is shut off.  Between the live wells constantly running, then a radio, I always fear that when it was time to go, the batteries would be dead.

Ne to but not in, that is interesting.

If mine fit, that is where they are going.

I shold be able to hear those if they are facing in (can on my fathers trophy WA with gunwale mounted speaks.

I keep a fuly charged jump box on the bot for that reason now Nicky.

Next year it is dual batteries possibly with charger installed.

Hi Mboy,

Mine were mounted in that location. "Were" meaning that I ripped them out just for the reasons Luna said. I have a small battery operated radio on board now. I justified it because it has Weather Band (in case my main radio dies).

Without the radio, I can hear things I would never have believed.

The holes are now access hatches and they actually help me when routing wires.

No fun having a little boombox bouncing around on your helm or seat next to you. Trust me, I know.

Wife is on boat every weekend with me and we enjoy listening to music when we fish or just hang out.

father has had radio on all 8 boats he has owned since I was a kid and NEVER a problem killing battery or hearing while running (that is more function of speaker local and amp power.

That is why the gunwale mounted location is important for me.  I am woried about batery since all I have now is 1 group 24.

That is why I keep a fully charged batery jumper on boat at all times :)

Hi Mboy,

One Group 24 is not enough ... all your electronics and the radio will eat that up.

Can you fit one Group 27 (the Optima Blue Group 27 equivalent is just a bit bigger (2 inches or so) than a standard Group 24 and you nearly 2 or 3X the charge capacity.

I agree with the bouncing but as I got older it was nicer to listen to the sounds of the beach and ocean rather than to music.

I guess it is easier to take speaker out and access fuel line then it is to drill 2 5/1/16 holes in my fiberglass gunwales :)
