I've been checking out this site now that I finally stumbled upon it from someone recommending it on Noreast.com. I really find it far more insightful and informative for the NJ area.

I have been fishing and boating all my life with my Dad since I can remember.  Been out on all kinds of boats together, but neither of us ever owned one.  It was always my dad's dream to own a boat, retire, and fish out in the bays somewhere down in Cape May.  Sadly, he passed away from a major heart attack suddenly just over 2 years ago at only 51 years old.  Losing him was defintely the hardest thing I have ever gone through, but it changed my perspective on life quite a bit and in a strange, roundabout way prompted me to buy a boat and live the dream.  You just never know when you are going to run out of time to live the dream, so you better do what you can now.

So anyway, enough with the sob story.  Even though I have been in and around boats all my life, I've never actually owned one until late last summer.  I mostly utilize sites like this to keep up on safety and just learn all I can to be a courteous and safe boater.  I am blessed to have a son of my own now and want to make sure  he and I are always safe out there on the water.  Also being an avid fisherman, I come looking for tips and sometimes just to read a good ol' fish story.  I mostly spend my time out in the Raritan bay, so if you see an old Wellcraft V20 named Andy's Delight (my dad's name and my son's name), give a holler!

grtn Welcome to the site. On this site your not alone when it comes to Fathers who have pasted and their sons who are now fathers with sons.. fcp I think that I said that right ;D Your name caught my eye since my father was a Andy and my son who we call Drew short for Andrew. Hope you and your son are able to post some pictures and reports from your fishing trips.

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear of your dad's passing. It sounds like he inspired you well and that you are doing the same for your son.

As others have said, any questions you have, just ask and we will do our best to help. Anything you can add, please do so.

Looking forward to your posts/reports.  t^

Wow, wasn't expecting so many replies so fast!  I should preface, my son is still a bit young to be heading out with me, he's 2 years old.  He was the gift that really helped me get through losing my dad.  I'm doing all the learning about safety and etiquette, along with all the good fishing tips so I can teach them to him right from the start.  But I will definitely be out there a bit until his time comes.  Thanks again for the warm welcome!

Welcome Aboard Andys Delight,

It is always hard to loose a dad and I an sorry for your loss.  My dad was not into fishing as much as my uncle was.  He is my fishing mentor and still is.  We try to get together at least 1 a week and drown some clams or what ever.

Memories will last forever.  Make as many as you can with the time you have.

Like everyone has said also, if there is anything you have a question about just throw it out there and if you have a solution post it ass well.  We are a friendly site with little or no drama and we like to keep it that way.

Happy Catching

Paul
