Pilot/T-Bone - Bass Bonanza 4-18
« on: April 18, 2010, 10:51:44 PM »
Planned the Sunday afternoon trip late in the week. T-bone and his son Nicky B joined me.  Joe Pops was a late scratch.  Joe, you were chasing the wrong tail!  Should have been there bro...  Around noon we finished loading gear and toppped off the belly of Z'obsession.  winds were a little gusty 15+/- out of the WNW.  Rounded the SH bay and hailed Eddie (Hunter2) on 68.  He apparently had a decent day in the RB and was beginning to troll the reach.  We wanted to assess the seas so decided to head toward Flynn's to do some clam dunking.   Dropped hook, chummed it up a bit and stayed put for no more than 45 min.  Not touch here today other than a lone bunker that I snagged on what I thought was a striper snipping my clam.  In the bucket that pup went.   T-bone had been jonesing to get outside.  I was on the fence based on Hunters fresh intel and info that they slaughtered them late yesterday in Bay.  Anchor is yanked.  Holy smoke there was a ton of road out.  Felt like 15 minute retrieve.  The windlass got a real good work out.  Just pass the false hook, the water was like a lake.  Made the run down to SR in 20 min.  We arrive at 2:15 amongst a Fleet scattered north and south.  Readings all over the finder.  This was CRAZY....  We unload the arsenal.  T-bone pulls out a 9" white paddle shad.  Nicky B testing metal.  T-bone strikes first.  The new Trevala is cranked over.  He's got the irredescent white Flueger spinner to match.   I'm busting his nuts saying the reel looks gay.  But he's got the first fish to box.  I better shut my pie hole.  Nicky B is flippin the Crockasmile trying to figure out the right retrieve, jig technique.  I've got the bass candy rigged on Tikki.  No sooner is my line in the water, bail open, I'm getting hammered.  A nice 32" bass inhales the bunk.  First fish for me.  Nick's got it figured out too. Drop it to the bottom, and crank like hell.  He’s hooked up.  His heavy fresh water gear is bent like a pretzel.  Nick does a fine job finessing the fish to the net.  There’s plenty more action repeated like this for the next 2-3 hours.  We moved around just to position ourselves outside the Gannett assault zone.  Birds bustin everywhere.  Wind blowin a little harder than we’d like but no matter what, every drop produced fish.  We put a three man limit + a bonus into the coffin within 45 minutes of arrival the rest of the time it was catch and release.  The fleet started thinning out due to the blow or most likely sore arms.  We stayed until 5:00 and then headed back to port.  Lost count on the fish..  We guestimated 20+.  Most were in the 28-32” class.  No slobs.  Wonder what it could have been with more candy  ;)

Till next time
