Hunter 2 Raritan Bay/ Flynns knoll 4-24-2010
« on: April 25, 2010, 08:08:27 AM »
Pulled out of Keyport at 8:20am with member Steve(Massbaster) and (No Spoons Left) Scott on-board. The weather was great with sunny skies and low wind with flat seas. Water temp was in the low 50's.
We headed up the triangle area and trolled a pair of Tony Maja spoons that Scott won at the NJSWF banquet. I marked a few fish but they were not biting. We made a move to the 19 buoy in the Raritan Reach. I noticed a few boats catching fish so out went the spoons. The starboard poll had a nice hit so Steve grabbed it and started reeling in to find the leader bit off just below the drail weight. :'(   Bye Bye new Spoon slt..
We moved over to the Old orchard area and trolled around a bit with no luck. 5hrug So we tried over by the 6 can in the Reach. We marked fish but no bites. Made another move to the Swash channel buoy 6 and 8 and put out a spoon and a jointed stretch 25+.  Trolled for a while and the rod with the spoon stopped pulsing. Steve reels it up and the spoon is gone but the snap swivel on the leader was still closed ??? :-\.    Either the split ring on the spoon broke or the snap swivel worked it way through the opening on the split ring and unraveled itself..
Thats a first for us :P Goodbye spoon #2 slt

Out goes another Stretch and the pole goes down then goes limp. Steve reels in a broken leader and no stretch 25+!!  Damn bluefish.  Scott gets a hit and pulls a nice Striper to the side of the boat only to  have it make a u-turn in the net and shake the hook loose. fcp
That was it for us and made it back to the dock by 2pm.  We will get them next time.   Good luck.. Eddie

The Stretch is a magnet and I've  noticed on a bluefish assault if one blue hits the other will hit the swivel and there goes $25.00. Lost 3 pink magnums in a row before I witnessed a top water attack on the stretch and seen it with my own eyes. cfzd
