OK.. eating is Seabass, unless we can also claim shelfish, then Crabs are my altimate favoriate.

Fighting... Can only be the bluefish.  Pound for Pound they are the strongest fighting fish on the Northern east cost.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

I would have to agree with Luna.  Seabass for dinner and  blue fish the fight winner.

As far as the fish I catch locally I agree.  But I could eat shrimp and steak 7 days a week!

Flounder, fluke, sea bass & blackfish to eat.

False albacore, bluefish & blackfish to fight from local waters.

Grouper, wahoo, tarpon & snook would also be on the list.

I'm embarassed to say I've never eaten a Seabass...I've only caught a few small ones by accident and always tossed them back...going to have to change that!
Also, if we're talking non-local I'd go with Mangrove Snapper for both fighting and eating.

Hi Salty,

In late August and September they are in tight to the beach. Last year was a bit tough as the September winds/rain took most of the month from us.

One of the best spots is actually the north jetty at Island Beach State Park (Barnegat Inlet).

When they are around, we will have to meet up!

Agree with hareball. Blues are great fighting fish, BUT i think im going to say Fluke for the taste. I've never caughten a sea bass in my life and ive been fishing for ehhhhh 13 years.  :-\

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

how far inshore for the albi ed ?
When I had my own boat, we used to encounter albies right outside the Hook. At times less than 150 yards off the beach.

I even caught an albie once inside Raritan Bay outside the inlet for Monmouth Cove Marina.
