Raritan Bay Bass 5/5
« on: May 06, 2010, 08:16:03 AM »
out of Sayreville yesterday around 12:30 with Ken(Blood Vessel)on his boat with some fresh bunker and some salted clams, couldn't get any fresh clams.found a spot back bay where we were marking and also seeing movement on top, started tossing the storm shads but no takers,I suggested let's go on the troll, got out the stretches and started dragging them.wasn't no more than a few minutes one of the poles takes off.Ken grabs it,big Striper on,get it to the boat and in.goes about 38 inches and 27 lbs.,released to fight another day, continue trolling and a pole takes off and it's my  turn.get this one in it's a Giant Blue, continue on the troll but picking up only large blues.decide to anchor up and try with the bait.we put 4 poles out with bunker chunks and clams, first fish on is a giant blue that gets all 4 lines in a mess, get it in and un do the tangles and back out with the lines but only 2 poles out,I have clam on and Ken has a bunker chunk.continue the afternoon and early evening with a blue fish blitz.my arms are worn out from catching these big blues, fun afternoon with the action with the blues, but never got another striper.headed in around 7.have pics but having trouble downloading to computer,I think my cable from camera to usb port shot.will put up pics later if I get it fixed.      Kez

Hello all, new here and need some advice. I have a 17' Lowe which keeps me in the bay, I've been out the past two weekends and destroyed bules but I want to catch some stripers.
I tried everything clams, bunker, bombers, spoons, trolling, do i just keep trying?
I am kinda limited to Raritan bay, usually launch out of Keyport. Any HELP. Thanks.

I mostly stay in the bay myself.the blues and the Stripers are chasing the bait fish in the bay and you will have to contend with the blues also.you'll get em,keep trying. t^   Kez

R u snagging or netting bunker? or r u using frozen?....always look for workin birds(and please don't drive thru the middle)....bass will  wait for a bunker head to drift there way when the blues r pounding on the surface. And of course keep trying all the methods you listed...they all work...some of the time  ;D,and none of the time. >:(....and you didn't list plastics (bunker colored shads) but they r a must. chrz
