If you have not been on the beach at the park lately or since last year you will be in for a big surprise. This years storms have takn a toll and the beaches for the most part are in bad shape. The 10 mile stretch of IBSP is in my mind only about 1/3 useful especially to newbies. The sand is very loose and many have been getting stuck. I talked to the parks Police and they asked me to pass this along to all that ride the sand.
Gillikins South to A7 is very bad especially at high tide not much beach to use at all. In many places there are cliffs that drop off close to 8'. The sand is very loose and if you do not know the limitations of your vehicle you will get stuck. From A23 to the inlet is in good condition and is recommended at this time.
I was out there on Thursday and saw a few guys stuck, in fact one person asked for help and we had to decline simply because the sand was to soft for my vehicle to get close to assist. All I could do is get hold of the parks police to get him a tow truck, OUCH...I did try to explain that instead of digging out to use their jack to lift the veh up and fill in the tracks. I hope it helped because it will be a very expensive day for them.
I will keep you sand rats posted as what the beach needs is a few good rains to help pack down the sand a bit. As we all know because of the economy everything has been cut back and that is the same for the park. Therre are less personal working at the park this year so don't be surprised to see the park in less than pristine condition this year.
If you go to enjoy the beach please clean up after your self. You will start to get harassed if you don't by many of the locals that use the beach regularly.
I hope this keeps many of you safe and as the season is ready to open very soon if you plan on driving out on the sand keep in mind that if you do get stuck it could cost you in excess of $300.00 to get you back on the road.
Have a great summer and be safe out there.
Happy Catching
