Beach use very limited...
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:19:24 AM »
If you have not been on the beach at the park lately or since last year you will be in for a big surprise.  This years storms have takn a toll and the beaches for the most part are in bad shape.  The 10 mile stretch of IBSP is in my mind only about 1/3 useful especially to newbies.  The sand is very loose and many have been getting stuck.  I talked to the parks Police and they asked me to pass this along to all that ride the sand.

Gillikins South to A7 is very bad especially at high tide not much beach to use at all.  In many places there are cliffs that drop off close to 8'.  The sand is very loose and if you do not know the limitations of your vehicle you will get stuck.  From A23 to the inlet is in good condition and is recommended at this time.

I was out there on Thursday and saw a few guys stuck, in fact one person asked for help and we had to decline simply because the sand was to soft for my vehicle to get close to assist.  All I could do is get hold of the parks police to get him a tow truck, OUCH...I did try to explain that instead of digging out to use their jack to lift the veh up and fill in the tracks.  I hope it helped because it will be a very expensive day for them.

I will keep you sand rats posted as what the beach needs is a few good rains to help pack down the sand a bit.  As we all know because of the economy everything has been cut back and that is the same for the park.  Therre are less personal working at the park this year so don't be surprised to see the park in less than pristine condition this year.

If you go to enjoy the beach please clean up after your self.  You will start to get harassed if you don't by many of the locals that use the beach regularly.
I hope this keeps many of you safe and as the season is ready to open very soon if you plan on driving out on the sand keep in mind that if you do get stuck it could cost you in excess of $300.00 to get you back on the road.

Have a great summer and be safe out there.

Happy Catching

Paul

I'm hoping the rangers crack down on some of the group out there to picnic and sunbath.  5hrug  If the usual volume of people have to crowd into the south end all season, it's going to be a nightmare.

Don't count on it this year Chris.  In fact I was told that they only have one Vehicle that has a working 4 wheel drive.  Maintenance has a couple but  this year is going to be a nightmare I'm afraid.

Money should never be an excuse for that park.  The buggy passes alone generate over $1 million a year in revenue.  Besides all the drive in fees at $6 or $10 a car.

How long have you lived in NJ.  No matter where the money is supposed to go it goes into a general fund.  Believe me when I tell you that money is not flowing into the parks funds like it used to.

They can't afford to replace batteries on the portable radios they use at the park.  They now are doing radar traps on the paved road where for years it was not done except for the beach itself.

The beach should be graded and allowed to fill in by having the water slide up onto the sand depositing the sand in the water column back onto the beach.  By leaving the drop-offs the beach has become dangerous especially at night.

This summer should be interesting.
