Raritan Bay Stripers and Blues 5/13
« on: May 13, 2010, 07:13:06 PM »
John and myself out of Sayreville this morning Around 7:30 with a dozen fresh clams,3 bunker and salted clams from last trip.started out trolling the stretches in the vicinity of Great Beds Light house, hook right up with Jumbo blues, first one had every hook in him from the stretch, while the 2 of us trying to get the hooks out,had reeled in the other stretch part way to get out of the way and it's just laying on top floating and a monster blue hits it and takes off,get this in,and go back on the troll, again the blues, big blues.one even rips the coil ring open that's holding the treble on the stretch and lose the hook.got out of here and headed towards Keansburg, where I found some marks and started trolling, had one hook up that was dropped before seeing.decided to anchor and bait fish with the clams and bunker.again bluefish runoffs, continue fishing and start marking heavy and finally I get a Striper just about 28 inches that is released, finally line goes tearing out and I get a nice fat one about 34 inches that goes 16 lbs.we continue marking heavy  and land a few shorts and one at 31 inches.with all the markings and not really getting a steady chew, decide to pick up and go on the troll, head over towards great Kills where we get a couple hook ups that are lost and another Blue.around 2 head to back bay and try trolling again by the lighthouse and hook up with a short.call it a day and head in around 3.great day on the water after a chilly start in the morning, sun out and warm, bay almost like a sheet of glass and very calm.    Kez

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
