Great Egg Harbor Bay Help
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:41:00 PM »
My family has not salt water fished for years.  We are planning on doing some this year at Great Egg Harbor.  We plan on using the Ocean City launch.  We have a 21' Center Console we are going to use.

Where are good places to fish in the bay.  Where is a good area for sea bass maybe flounder etc.  I also actually like sand shark and dog sharks also (shark has a good taste).  Any advice on getting started in this area etc.  I am not looking for peoples secret spots just some ideas on how and where to start etc.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

Yea.. that's a tough location for us here.  I don't recall anyone I know fishing that area...

Stopping at the local B&T and asking these questions.. could produce some good info.

Let us know how you make out.

If you head just north of the inlet towards Margate and drift along the houses the water is pretty deep there and I caught several nice keepers over the past few years. Also Scull Bay holds fish although we only got shorts, There is a small chanel that the captain of the boat I was on called the whirlpool that was also productive but I am not sure of exactly where we were maybe one of the locals could direct you there.

Hello,

We've caught sea bass as a by catch while drifting for fluke in the above mentioned areas. You probably want to stick to structure so any of the several bridges in the bay would be a good spot. If you can manage to get the wind and tide to cooperate try just below the Margate toll bridge on the east side of the chanel and drift toward the bridge along the marina (You'll probably see guys fishing off the docks). It gets deep along the marina as you get close to the bridge. This is where we caught a couple of sea bass and fluke however they were shorts.

Good Luck,

Chris
