Irish Ayes 5-30-10 fishing
« on: May 30, 2010, 09:35:31 PM »
Left my slip with Capt Mike, Johnny Oz, his brother Mike, and Peter aboard. We had every intention of catching a bunch of different kind of finned creatures.

At the same time, the finned creatures had every intention of avoiding us and were winning till late in the game.

We started out by snagging bunker just outside the inlet. Loaded up the livewell and took off for our striped bass spot. Nobody invited the bass to our outing.

Left there and went looking for seabass and/or fluke on the Sea Girt reef. The reef was crowded with boats with the same intentions as ours. Don't know how they made out but did see some seabass being flipped over the rail on a few boats. Johnny Oz managed to hook into a short fluke and we had a couple of short seabass. All of our seabass spots were covered by other boats, leaving us no room to anchor.  :P

Late in the afternoon we went back to our striped bass search. Got some more bunker to replace ones we stripped out for bait. Tried around Asbury Park with no success on the bass.

Went back to where we started the morning and found some striped bass there. Boated four bass, two just under thirty pounds and two just under twenty pounds.

Had too long of a time before we found some fish but we finally beat the skunk for the day.

Joe... dont know if SHR is closer for you, but a friend of mine has been doing REAL well with bottom species of all type there lately... SB/cod/flunndies/togs ..... of coarse out of season fish have been released to much dismay...

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
