The Squan
« on: June 10, 2010, 08:54:20 PM »
Fished the PM supposed to be incoming . The tide was strange, there was hardly moving all afternoon at the new Condos. Still had just enough of a bite keeping me interested. I had about 15 fish with 3 keepers 2 of witch I lost at the boat both around 20 inches the one I had in the box was just over 18. According to the Bait shop off 88 near the canal they did really well this morning on spearing. The best part of the day was when I poked my nose out to the inlet to check the Ocean (small boat) I went out debating weather I should go to the AC reef when all of a sudden a Humpback Whale breached about 200 yards away so I headed over that way and started to get an uneasy feeling (small boat) so I went back in. Really cool its kind of funny that as I walked out of the house to go fishing my Wife was telling me about a baby one that washed up.  chrz

It is going to be an interesting weekend.  There are fish and mammals all over the place.  The bite has been slow but I have a feeling it is about to pop once again for a short time and then get into the summer fishing pattern.

The satellite pictures of the water temps are amazing as the cold waters are lingering around longer than usual.  It is holding right along the coast.  This is keeping the plankton around and the bunker that feed on it are holding in large numbers.  Lets go Weekend.

Happy Catching

It wasn't a Pilot whale It was for sure a humpback the pectoral flippers was white and dark with a rounded tip and a bumpy looking outline not pointy like a pilot whale. When the whale breached there was no mistaking it for any other whale because of its size and the shape of its pectoral flippers. I have seen tons of pilot whales around the inlet they are pretty common. There was a humpback that spent several days in the area of Point and Bay Head last year.
