weather conditions on the water
« on: July 04, 2007, 04:48:05 PM »
I check marine forcasts before a trip, but at times these forcasts are not actual conditions and trips are canceled due to forcasts,be great if somebody on water could relay conditions back to somebody that could post them on this site. Was planning on going out later tomorrow morning but forcast don't look good,so I'll probably cancel. :-\

Hi Kezsr,

Absoutely the right type of things we are looking into reporting real time.

We have some ideas about streaming live and such ... it will take a bit of time and technology investment.

Rod and I sometimes get real time reports up - but they tend to be for a small area.

In the Member's Forum, there is contact info for folks that are on the water a lot. That works pretty well as a "private network" right now. Have you looked into the Member's Forums? You should be eligible as you have made a number of posts.

Keep the ideas coming ...

Hi All,

I do check any webcam I can access (if it is light enough) before I go out.

Do you guys know the local webcams? I can post them if you would like (they are mostly maintained by and for surfers).

Ed

If the weather man calls for anything but an east wind I take the ride and check it out for myself.  If the wind is anywhere near the west, up by the beach is always fishable.  The land blocks the wind until you get out a bit.  Besides that, I usually have the ocean all to myself because everyone else cancelled out because of the weather report.
I will also go look at an east wind, but usually don't get out.

I use the webcams as well Exit98 is a good beach scene and refreshes every 10 sec. I believe.

Always found this site to be accurate in their forecasts.

Thats the one I use for all my detailed reports for Emergency Management.  If you need any archive reports they are available there as well.  Mt. Holly has a good team of experts.

I agree sites mentioned are right on most of the time with forcasts, they are the ones I check, but sometimes they're not, actual conditions from some one on water would be true conditions at that time.I remember some body once having a weather rope on their deck, the sign on it,I don't remember all of it but it went like this,if it's wet it's raining,if it's moving it's windy.

Hi All,

Rod has worked out a way to access the site from a "wap" connection (text representation of our forums). I can access either way.

Rod - are you fgoing to add a current sea conditions forum or ???

Kezsr - we will have a temp solution pretty soon ... the Contact Forum is probably still the best bet!

Yes . I see a live sea conditions forum that members can input data to from their Cell..

But I'm having a hard time getting to it for starters ;D
