Caught these skates out of belmar/point pleasant was wondering if you guys could help me with IDing them.
limit of 2, to make a pair of skatessorry, couldnt resist!!
That is a LITTLE SKATE. There is no debating it or question about it.Some basic skate ID:Little skate and winter skate are easily confused. The main difference is that Little skate are smaller, making large little skates easily confused with small winter skates. Little skates, are however, sexually mature at a smaller size than winterskates (at the same size winter skates are sexually immature). Your skate is a sexually mature male (I.e. enlarged claspers, gross i know), this coupled with its small size mean it is a little skate.Clearnose skates look a lot different than that. They have an almost triangular "nose", and they have tiger like markings on their body. They are a warmer water species and you will catch them often in shallow water when bottomfishing.
A skate is a skate.
Quote from: taco on June 22, 2010, 01:09:22 PMA skate is a skate. If everyone followed that type of ignorance I'm sure more than half our species would be endangered by now.
