Sorry for the slack reports. We have been swamped this summer. The most recent offshore trip was with Phil Malcsh Owner of
G&H Lure Co. We had Phil out this spring for our inshore
“Trophy Striper Season” and the guys worked the big girls over. This trip was a R&D Mission out of Hattes Inlet, NC.
We left at 0530 and the plan was to head due East till we found the break and then work our way North. We found the break after a 25 mile run and dropped lines. Man I love those short
HI runs. Immediately the guys are working the
Mahi into the boat. Then we hear reports of a
Tuna bite overboard and we head that direction. Started to work the
100fathom line and heading East and have the spread
BLASTED.Not a single hook up! I’m glancing into the spread as the guys clear the lines and a 50lbs plus Yellow fin attacks the flat line and this one wont come tight either. What the hell are those hooks rubber?
Then we find the remains of a scattered weed line, full of two tones and pick up another
mahi. No
bills to be found today. Turn the
“Kaylyn” to the west and troll into skinnier water and immediately pick up three 25lbs
.mahi. As we head toward the tower, we decide to troll around it to see if the
Amberjack are home. Our 1st pass nothing, as we round the tower again I look down and it’s like looking into a
fishbowl. The guys get the jigs and Bam, Phil is hooked up and screaming like a 10 year old girl. 15 minutes later
35lb. Amberjack in the boat. We put the jigs away and troll around after see a school of bait fish getting devoured. Immediately the
Penn 50 is a screaming. John Green is up and working the fish to the boat. After a great fight we see color and it’s a 50lbs fish with three of his buddies chasing him to the boat. Phil sinks the steel and another
AJ is getting a
“Free Ride” to the barn. Make another pass and the Penn is screaming again.
“Big Dan” is on deck and works a beautiful
Jack Crevalle to the boat. What a great day on the water. Total for the day was
9mahi and we kept
2 of the largest
AJ’s for the table. Plus one
