Well after much research and planning we took our boat out for the first time to try our hand at salt water fishing (we hadn't fished in the bay in many years).
On board was my three year old boy who LOVES fishing, my dad, my mom and my wife, and of course me.
The day on the water started later then we wanted but someone
forgot the life jackets so we had to go to Kmart to buy a bunch of cheapies.
I picked up squid, clam and a bunker for bait. I also bought the hook style recommended on this forum.
Well we set up (only people fishing was Mom, Dad, my son and I). We first anchored up as my wife wanted to try out the crab basket.
We were fishing near the large factory smoke stack.
I first caught a small fluke (about 9").
Then came the best part of the day. My son (with the help of dad) landed a 27" dogshark. We were all so excited for him you would have thought he caught Moby Dick.
He was so excited and we got it all on video!
Well I caught 6 fluke from 9" all the way up to 13" but no keepers. Overall we caught and released about 12 fluke.
We are hoping to eventually find a good spot for big ones through trial and error.
Drifting really was more productive and brought more action as was the using of clams for bait.
I was the official Captain and first mate on this outing (but didn't mind one bit).
I was happy that even though the only keeper was the two sharks (I later caught about a 10-12" one) we had plenty of action and never a dull moment.
We also caught several keeper crabs 4"+.
In spite of not many keepers it was an awesome family day!!!!!!!
The shark was good eating and my son now says he wants to catch a swordfish
I attached a picture with us holding our catches and dad with his lol
