On 7/4 I had Frank,Shelly and Abe out for a 3/4 day wreck trip. We left a little earlier than usual and came back in plenty of time to make the BBQ. A little more wind than we expected in the morning kept us close to the beach while we waited for the seas to lay down. The guys picked away at plenty of shorts and boxed 12 nice size fish off of this drop. The wind dropped out and we pushed off the beach to deeper water and found a nice pick of quality fish. Most keepers were 15 plus inch fish. Nice fish anytime but especially in early July. Frank had the top seabass that weighed 3.1 lbs. The 3 anglers slugged away to put together decent box with 56 keeper seabass and 8 ling. They also released plenty of blackfish and a short cod. On 7/5 it was the guys from Cafe L looking to cash in on the good seabass bite. Today we tried a different area and it payed off big time. Not all the quality fish of yesterday but a steady bite of keepers with enough big fish to keep everyone happy. A few slow downs when we lost the tide but a very good bite today. The 3 anglers boxed their 75 fish limit early with the added bonus of a keeper cod and a few ling. They also released tog to 6 lbs and 2 20" short cod fish. A fine day on the water. It looks like the seabassing will hold up most of the summer. It does not get much better for a bottom fisherman. Lots of big seabass a mix of ling and cod and after next week jumbo blackfish all the while wearing shorts and a tee shirt.
