PPB surf fishing questions
« on: July 10, 2010, 06:55:39 PM »
Just moved to Point Pleasant Beach and want to go surf fishing. I will be going at night, any tips or what to fish for, rig set-ups, etc. Also, any rules I must follow on the beach. Any advise will help. Thanks in advance

Surf fishing during the summer can be challenging. The bass are available but not in the numbers of spring or fall Night or day. Blues can be in and out too but not like in spring. My advice is fish for fluke and be prepared with a few lures if the blues and bass show. Hi/lo rigs with gulp swimmin mullets will get you some action. Carry some metal lures and a couple of small swimmers for a resident bass. In September things should change.Bait fishing (clams or bunker)brings lots of junk fish, sea robbins, skates and dogfish in summer but may produce a fish or two. Good luck !!!

I second that you start by fluke fishing. I would suggest getting out early in the morning with killies and gulp.  Also, the water has been very warm lately, so you could try for kingfish and croakers as well.  use small hooks on a high-low rig and fish-bites (bloodworm "flavor") for these guys
