Fishguts Charters 7/21 bay combo trip
« on: July 21, 2010, 07:09:47 PM »
Man you gotta love the bay combo trips. They are just a blast. All about action and not to worried about filling the coolers. Today it was Tony,Carmine and Steve manning the light tackle gear. The plan was to work the bay fluke over on the early tide then slip out to the ocean for an hour or so and try to grab a few seabass for dinner. The morning fluke was very good with a mix of sizes from postage stamps to nice 17" fish. Plenty of fish spread over a huge area. The morning bay bite was highlighted by Carmines 25" 5 lb fluke caught on a trout rod and shad dart. Lots of double headers today but no other keeper fluke. When the guys had their fill of fluking we headed to an inshore snag for  more fast action. I was not expecting many keepers seabass on this  shallow wreck but enough for a dinner or two. The guys went to work having a good time with some light outfits picking away at shorts and and an occasional keeper seabass when a nice shot of porgies showed up. Love them porgies on the light stuff. The anglers box some nice 12" fish and released some smaller ones. They also enjoyed a real nice tog bite with small 13" fish and boxed a couple bigger models for a real mixed bag for the day. The high light on the wreck was Steve doing battle with a jumbo 7 lb conger eel. Thought he had a nice doormat there for a bit. A real fun day with some real nice guys and hit the dock a little after lunch time.
