Sea Hawk 7/31 fluke report
« on: August 02, 2010, 01:06:13 PM »
Sailed with a light crowd for a beautiful Saturday and headed out to the edge of the bay.

Had a pick of keepers going and overall pretty decent action. Moved out to the channel and had good spurts of action. Had to move for the larger ships and CG, but we picked away at some nice fish.

High hook had 4, a few with 3, some with 1-2, and a few with none. Quite a few nice keepers in the 3-5lb range as well as some really nice sea bass. One young angler had a few fluke and a 16lb striped bass that he caught on a bucktail.

Pool fish went 5lb 6oz and caught by Mrs Gottog - Theresa Z.

Saturday's afternoon charter had tougher fishing. Some action, but slow pick of keepers. Pool fish at 4lb.

Some pics from Saturday:

Was pretty good action and some nice fish around. T was on a hot streak hooking skate after skate regardles of bait, rig or bucktail.  Then saw her hook into that fish and knew it was a pretty good one. It hit dragged boat-bait:spearing and squid.

I bucktailed all day going from 1 oz to 2oz and then a brief time with 4oz and back to 2oz again.  Fished a teaser and quite a few "just short" fluke hit the Gulp shrimp that was sitting on it.  Keepers came on the 6" gulp grup that was sitting on the jig.

Quite a few of the seabass came on double-spearing.  They didn't seem interested in the Gulp I was bouncing.

LOADS of big bunker still out there around Ambrose channel.

The striper was loaded with fresh butterfish.

baitwaster, we fished Ambrose and part of the Reach.
