Raritan Bay Fluking 8/3
« on: August 03, 2010, 05:06:15 PM »
Ben,John and myself out of Sayreville this morning around 5:30,headed straight to the TC Buoy and started with a good drift, catching fish on the first drift but all shorts, wasn't long John has 2 for the box,a 19 incher and one just over 18,we got a bite going, sad to say most of the fish were really small, occaisonally getting a 17 incher, once the tide changed it was a wind against tide and the bite slowed.fished here until noon with the biggest excitement for me thinking I had a big flattie, get it up have a double header,a giant skate took the flukeball and had a short fluke on the trailer teaser.we then moved back in the Reach where we were getting some nice fish but just not big enough, finally I get one for the box just over 18 inches.moved to the 11A and picked a few shorts before heading in at around 1:30.a lot of small fish today but able to box 3.good to be out on the water trying, not that many boats out there today.hopefully give it a try again Friday. slt     Kez

Lots of fish around, just mostly small.  Have you fished the back bay at all lately?  I haven't heard much that is encouraging for back there, so I've been running out further.  Lots of sea bass and more keeps than fluke.

haven't fished back bay in a couple weeks, one of the reasons is we use to have a lot of success fishing the Reach on the NY side, but with the different regulations it's tough somtimes putting a keeper catch at 18 inches for NJ and then it's 21 inches for NY and plus you have to have the license which I have.
