Crab pot or Crab Trap
« on: August 07, 2010, 04:44:17 PM »
Ok maybe there is a member who KNOWS the difference. I think I know but wanted to make sure before I take the "kids" out crabbing.

I don't have the typical crab trap you can buy at walmart. The ones I have are similar but I want to make sure they are legal.

Rules say the trap must be collapsable ok. All four sides of my traps do fold outward and down and lay flat as if on the sand. the ones you buy in walmart do the same thing, are mine legal?

here is a link to mine on Ebay

Yes.  You're fine.

A crab trap has sides that collapse and close when you pull a string.  A crab pot typically is solid with narrow openings which allow the crabs to enter but make it difficult for them to exit.  Pots are usually left out overnight and require a crab pot license.  The license allows you to have up to two pots.
