Pilot - Fluke Sat 8-7
« on: August 08, 2010, 09:07:44 PM »
Fished with my brother Jay aka Shay Shay and my neice the Trash Talker.   The Talker insisted on breaking lines before first light to get a jump on the day.  Go figure! Kids just 13 but has a passion for fishing with her Dad and Unc.  I'll take it.  We threw the net to get a couple of snaps in a ripping high.  Put them in the live well and put some fuel in the tank.  Planning for a long day.  Had some salted nutz, Killies and plenty of squid.  On drift by 6:00.  Slow pick at first.  Put a nice 4.5 lber 23.5" in the box fairly quick.  Looked like we were into a good day.  The Talker, is draggin bait (squid/killie combo) and her pole bends in half with the triple shake going on.  Like a trooper manages to get the fish off the bottom.  I grab net.  Her line and mine are crossed.  As this fish is near transom, net in position, enough slack in line due to cross over, it spits.  I came a half a body length on the fish to netting it but it swam to depths.   Felt like hell losing a fish on her.  And I can assure you she'll remind me!  Slide around a bit more in the Ambrose to a couple of spots and picked up 3 more keeps.   Worked our way outside.  Tried a couple of proven spots and found plenty of fish.  All short.  Many fish missing the mark by 1/8" with thick shoulders.   Headed down to the snake.  Plucked away at more shorts.  A couple of sea bass. Motored back.  Found a pocket of fish in 45 ft.that were stacked.  Not a keeper in the bunch.  Jay had a field day and without exception hooked up with every drop.  We played catch and release for another good hour and half.   Called it a day... a full day.   Back at the dock at 5:00..    Great day on the water.  Caught nearly 65-70 fish.  Put 4 in the box and 3 seabass.   Maybe by the end of the month those 17 7/8 will grow to be dinner ;)

Till next time.
