new regs proposed to effect all on the water
« on: August 12, 2010, 12:40:35 PM »
Heard something new on News ch 12 New Jersey today 8/12/10

It will very soon become illegal to talk on a cell phone or text while opperating you boat

So I guess that will cover opperating your electronics, ship to shore Radio, fish finder, etc...

I think what Whatsnext is referring to is the fact that all of the above are just as distracting as talking/texting on a cell phone and therefore Big Brother may keep us from doing that also.

This country is taking away more of our freedoms everyday. And I am not talking about any one political party.  :P

This is nothing more than political fluff.  How many people talk on their cell while driving a boat?  How many people can even hear well enough to talk on a cell between the engine and the wind?  Far more time is spent looking away from the "road" while looking at GPS/Depthfinder/Radar than a cell phone.  The only true distractable offense I have seen is people who use autopilot. I watched a rather large Bertram boat flying by wide open just at the tip of SH headed back into the Highlands with the captain casually facing backwards looking down on the deck chatting with his guests.  No one was at the helm at all nor was there a lookout.  This was on a saturday with plenty of people drifting for fluke (me included).

If you asked me

I'd make it illegal for well developed women to wear two pc. bathing suits on boats

For sure thats more distracting than a cell phone

I'm sure they could write more tickets for that
