Unfortunately I'm out. Maybe next time. Sounds interesting and informative.
Darren and Rod can have one of my beers each. Joe can have my donut.
My pizza, that you'll have to fight over.

Got an early start today and headed south on the Garden State Parkway riding shot gun with Pops Soul at the wheel and Bob G and Capt Mike in the back seat. We made it to Tournament Cable just prior to 8am. We were met there by HotRod, Fishin Dude, Brewdaddy and tcdethom4. Chuck had coffee and donuts waiting for us in his shop.

After quick introductions and hellos our day began. The day started with Chuck demonstrating different techniques for rigging ballyhoo and butterfish. He also showed the proper way to prepare the bait prior to rigging.

Next on the menu was the Australian braid. This is a much easier way to make a double line and when tied properly has a 100% breaking strength rating. We did some hands on with the braid and everyone picked up on it pretty quickly.

On to making wind on leaders which included how to make an eye splice in the double braid and inserting the flouro leader inside the braid and properly seizing the line where the leader enters the braid. At this station we also were shown an easy way to make assist hooks.

We discused many of the items he had in his shop and were shown the proper way to crimp sleeves.

Chuck also schooled us on the use of planers and how to deploy them showing us an inovative use of the planers using a bridal inserted into your main line. This system allows the planer to be quickly removed upon cranking it up to the rod so you can continue your fight with rod and reel eliminating the need to hand line the leader.

All in all, this was a great way to spend a cold winter day and a terrific learning experience. I would recommend a visit to Tournament Cable any time you are in the Cape May area.  t^

Oh man!  Sounds like a great day! t^  Wish I could have made it down there with y'all, but had a family thing to take care of.

Hopefully, we can schedule another one of these sometime down the road.

We can do that Bob. I know I would do this again. Any body who could not make today let me know your interest. Chuck said we can do it again after the boat/fishing shows are done.

He will be at the Atlantic City show and the Somerset show this year. Stop in and tell him you are from NJSWF.  t^

Yes it was a Great day, You don't get many chances to meet with a major tackle manufacturer who is not afraid to give away secrets and tricks of the trade. Chuck is really a great guy and joined right in on the ball breaking  ;D One of the many things we seen and liked was the "Australian Braid Knot" Here is a video link of how it's done t^ http://videofishingknots.com/plaited-double.html
Chuck also gave each of us a copy of one of his videos.  clp And Yes HotRod did by lunch  thud Thank You Rod. Thank You Joe for getting this one togeather it was well worth the 2 hour ride t^

I'd do it again even if it was a three hour ride. Wouldn't want to make it that early in the morning though.  TT^
