So I made the choice to play paintball with guys from work Saturday since the fishing scene was slow all week. During a break I check my phone and find out IBSP is on fire....figures.
We head out to IBSP around 9am Sunday. Water was like a lake. Covered the whole park twice, trying several spots. It was DEAD. Met up with Jason and he wasn't having any luck either.
Desperate times call for desperate measures. Pulled out the sabiki rig and got in on the action of a snapper "blitz" for a while. That was it.
Back out Monday morning in the park. Again, DEAD. I covered the whole park twice. Not a tap and no word of any action anywhere. Meat up with Paul and he wasn't lucky either. TONS and TONS of bait stacked up everywhere.
As I was headin out of the park I heard of some action a couple towns north. Stopped to see what was going on and didn't find much. But again there was bait everywhere. So I pulled out the snag hook and scored a few bunker for later.
On a whim I decided to cast out a popper. First cast BANG, 10lb blue (my first fish on a plug). Two casts later his twin hits the beach. Then nothing else, but others in the area continued to catch.
Right now things are hit or miss. There's tons of bait... mullet, bunker, sandeels, rainfish, spearing, etc, etc, etc. The fish show up along the beach in short and random bursts. Ya just gotta be in the right place at the right time and be willing to move.
Poppers and live bait seem to be the ticket.
