« on: October 19, 2010, 02:54:04 PM »
Hit the beach this AM in the rain by 7. Nothing in Mantoloking so headed south. Stopped in Seaside near the pier. Bunker were being pushed a couple hundred yards off the beach. By the time I reached the waters edge and cast, game on!!! First cast !!! Bluefish over 10# After 5 more it died out. Didn't see any bass today. Quit by 11AM, Pencil Popper was the way to go.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

I would try the afternoon as it seems like that is when the large schools of bait start their runs up and down the beach.  Early morning just has not been producing at all lately.

I don't like using a wire leader but use 50 to 80lb test mono or floro what ever I have around.

It is about 18 to 24 inches long something I can grab and pick the fish up out of the wash.  Lately the ocean has been like a lake with no waves at all.  It makes it a bit difficult bringing these guys in without the help of the waves so I went to a longer leader just to horse these big guys in.
