Halloween Treat on the Irish Ayes
« on: October 31, 2010, 07:00:48 PM »
Saturday: Had Dave, Jim, Ron and Peter aboard. Went south in search of some stripes. Had plenty of great marks on the machine but very few takers. Count for the day was four blue fish.

Sunday: Bob G and Johnny Oz were the crew today. Headed north out of SRI again searching for bass. Plan "B" was to anchor for tog/porgies or whatever else wanted to inhale our offerings.

Made it all the way to Long Branch without a trace of life. No birds, no marks, no baitfish to be seen.  :P Went to plan "B" and dropped our hook on a rock pile. Caught a couple of small seabass and was about to move on to another spot when I received a call from Captain Allen to get my butt down south as "it is on!" Pulled the anchor up faster than we have ever done before and boogied on down.

Got within a couple of miles from Captain Allen and saw a humongous amount of birds. Stopped to jig on them and never stopped. (Sorry we didn't make it all the way Captain Allen). Bluefish after bluefish after bluefish. Coming out of the water several at a time crashing into each other. Blues going every which way on the surface. Cast a lure...catch a fish. Wind started picking up and the catching slowed but didn't stop. Only kept a half dozen blue fish and released the rest unharmed. Along with the blues we were fortunate enough to land three keeper bass. Two for Bob G and one for Johnny Oz. I had a nice bass on but it came unbuttoned boatside. Many times we were all hooked up at the same time and we had several doubles, fish on the lure and teaser.

A big thank you to Captain Allen for the call. His boat name says it all, "REEL CLASS".  slt

Just like last weekend for us...what a difference a day makes. A lousy Saturday followed by a fantastic Sunday. t^

Will be out again tomorrow.  ;D

Good job as usual Joe.  It seems like the fish are here but till the water cools a bit (lets see what happens with this cold snap) it will be a hit or miss.

The guys on the beach will probably start to thin out now that the cold is here so it should be a bit easier for the regulars to get spots.  It has been crazy out there for us.

Happy Catching
