I definitely want to try GULP this year.  Is Gulp Alive different from the Saltwater Gulp?

That is awesome!!  Even if you run out of Gulp baits, you won't run out of Gulp!  The Smelly Jelly stuff never worked too well for me, but I'd trust Berkeley to come out with something good.  Very cool!

Just to warn you.  The "resealable" containers on the Gulp! Alive don't really seal all that well.  I don't know if it's the type of plastic those tubs are made from or what, but they can leak!  I know I had a tub leak all over the inside of my tackle bag and onto the carpet in my car's trunk.  What a mess! :P  And I do know it's happened to others as well.

Amazing stuff!  But I would suggest that to protect your investment, you may want to get a good quality Tupperware style container with a screw on lid for this stuff and throw away the bucket it comes in. ;D

Try 6" Grubs and 7" Jerk Shad for Stripers
« Reply #49 on: January 26, 2008, 08:20:53 AM »
I just found this board and so  far I am impressed.  I would look around slow, But I am one of GULP's biggest fans and I have probably the largest stock in NJ at my store.

As good as the small GULP works for Fluke these bigger baits work even better for stripers.  Last Fall I jigged GULP in the front of the boat while my clients dragged live spot and I outfished them more times than not.  Not just numbers but keepers as well.

I had the boats hanging Chartruce Jerk shads like they used to hang eels.  Which they will beat hands down.  The 10" eels are also great baits, but even i consider them a little expensive and overkill.

I keep all the GULP at suggested retail prices, but I will usually have some early season sales to get things rolling so keep an eye out.

Capt Dave,  Welcome to the site.

A lot of guys here swear by the gulp.  I have a lot of it on my boat but have used it will limited success.  That probably is because I don't give it a long enough chance to do its work.  Perhaps next season I will have a bit more confidence in it and use it more often and longer.

Nice to see you here, Dave.  Not sure if you recall, but we used to talk on a weekly basis when I was doing reports for Nor'East SaltWater before they scaled down their NJ sections.  Stopped by your shop a couple times last summer when I worked in the A.C. area and you have a great place there.  t^

What I've found, personally, is that the GULP is a lot more popular in South Jersey than Central Jersey.  It's weird, almost like Toms River is the dividing line between Giants and Eagles fans, the Barnegat Inlet is the line between natural bait vs. Gulp for fluke and stripers.  It has definitely been catching on big time in much of Ocean County and spilling into Monmouth, though.  With some of their new products due out for this season, the stuff is going to take over, IMO.

the best part about gulp is, since I use a double rig for fluke, there are times you miss a hit, and then wonder if your bait got stolen... you can be assure that your bait is still there if you have the gulp swimming minnow on it.  It also if your doing a fun day on the water and then decide to fish a little, you know you will always have bait on hand without going to the bait shop.

Do most of you guys rig the Gulp with a jighead or just fish it as you would a regular frozen or live minnow/spearing.

I have to believe I've had a lot to do with it's popularity in the south, I've found that If I cah help people catch fish they become good customers and by turning them onto GULP they catch fish.

I'm not saying it will catch fish if none are around, but if you know you have fish around, and you are a reasonably competant fisherman,  I believe it will outfish anything you can throw at them.

At least Stripers, Fluke, and Weakfish and bluefish esppecially when the early season is still cold and they aren't interested in lures.

I use it on a spro, and I will also put it on a regular fuke hook with a long, thin piece of squid. Instead of your normal, squid/killie combo, do the same with the squid/gulp combo
