Togging 17-Dec
« on: December 17, 2010, 07:40:40 PM »
Fished for Tog on the Capt Cal out of Belmar today.   Nice boat and crew.  First time I was ever on the boat.  Togging was slow today, at least for me.  I had three shorts and no keepers.  I tried greenies, white leggers, clams and prayer.  I just didn’t have the feel today.  No monsters came aboard but some nice fish were caught. The bites were scratchy today.  It was cold in the bow all day but not unbearable.

Got out and gave it a try...wish I could have gone today, looked nice out.

Was the Cal running open boat today?? or was it a charter?

Great effort Phil.

I think the Cal is open boat every trip.

Nice to get out. Get em next time.
I need to get out and use that beauty rod you made and put her to work real soon.
Trying to decide on a new reel too, now that I have an excuse to pick another one up TT^
Thanks for the report. slt

Nice try Phil.  Bet you don't have those days too often.  I was just thinking that it seemed like every time I glanced toward the bow on the NJSWF trip you were bringing one over the rail. t^

Phil,

I'm curious why so many avid toggers like the Newells so much?

Thanks,
Bob

Newells are just good solid no nonsense reels. Light weight, small enough to palm and powerful enough to yank a tog out of the wreck. Just grease them after you take them out of the box.
