Delaware River shore fishing

Does anyone know of any piers, docks or easily accesible spots to fish the Delaware from Trenton north?

Near Trenton: There's a nice, relatively large, floating dock behind the baseball field you can fish from however, I believe, they closed it down. Not sure, maybe someone else can verify that. Also, Duck Island has many spots you can fish from shore.

How far north do you want to go? South of Carpentersville road is close to the river and you can fish anywhere along there.

Use to fish this area alot. Big rocks and some deep holes. North of Riegelville,PA on NJ side.

Trenton Marine Terminal 'wall' is closed due to deteriorating conditions.

Duck Island electric power plant allows access. Follow the road around the power plant and you will come to the entrance on the south side of the plant. Walk the path to the river. That is where the hot water discharge from the plant is. Great spot for shad and herring during the spring run. You can catch smaller striped bass there also.

I live right outside of trenton and have fished the river alot.. I always go to the ballpark and park in the back lot in the out field.. i like to wear my waders and wade out a few feet becausse of the rocks you can lose alot of rigs.. your best bet is to fish low tide because you can get out pretty far and the channel where the herring and shad run is about 15 yards off. i fished in a bost as well and know that the channel on the nj side holds most of the fish.. i chunk as well as live line but i have only caught some big catfish on chunks never a stripper.. hope this can help some of you guys out and maybe we can get together out there this year!! o yes sambiki rigs with red tips seem to the trick remember three hooks only!!

I did a google map search on duck island in Trenton and it looks like there's some sort of fuel tanks there. They allow you to fish there?

Yes, you CAN fish on Duck Island

Ditto on Duck Island.. When I first moved to the Trenton area, it was a sneak in only affair.. but thanks to the efforts of some, like writer Don Kaminski, (and anglers who proved that they where gong to crawl under the fence and fish anyway no matter what!), they made a public access.. It can get kooky there come shad time, but a great winter /early spring spot..  When the Stripers where in town, my buddies and I would also fish Scudders Falls alot..although I'm not sure I'd be physically up to it these days..  Wading out to the island was a bit of a hair raising combo of wading, swimming and drowning avoidance.. While we where young and stupid we rarely wore PFD's.. but they are strongly recommended for wading this area..   But having a big Striper blow up on a popper in that white water was something that no one will ever forget      If memory serves though there is a nice trail that follows the river, and provides access to some less hairy spots there as well..We'd also wade the stretch just above the tidal wall /Trenton-Makes Bridge (Calhoun St. I think ?) accessing from the PA. side.. but again, tricky wading..  Other places I'd hit from shore alot,  just south of Trenton where Bordentown beach, Roebling park, and the park in Florence.. all EZ access..these  3 spots where all good for Channel cats, Bass, etc. and always a chance of Herring/Shad/Striper coming in range in season..

Remember Licence holders from Pa. and Nj. share river rights, which means you can fish from both sides of the Big D. You didn't mention if you wanted to fish for anything in particular. Shad, Herring and or Striper's. But the Pa side of the river is a bit friendlier to the land based fisherman. Starting on the Southside of Morrisville you can park at Delmore and W. Philadelphia ave's. Your just about in my back yard at this point. A short walk down river there is a rock jetty (seen only at lowtide) that shoots into the river about 20 yards, popular spot for Striper's. You can fish the banks and the catwalk on the other side of the dike between the bridges parking on Park Ave first right soon as you come off the Trenton Makes bridge this is wader area in between high tides, at high tide you will get an occasional herring. Once you get past the water filtration plant at Lower ferry Rd.north of the Calhon st. bridge it's private property until you hit the RR bridge in Yardley, there is only enough parking for 2 or 3 cars. Your next spot would be the Yardley Access area (Boat Ramp) Then up to the Scudders falls bridge bring your waders and your shad darts, this is a Shad hot spot! Parking is roadside near the bridge. As far as the Jersey side as evreyone else has said you have the marine terminal for Herring after that there are a few spots in Washingtons crossing then Lambertville, from there Bulls Island St park. If you need any other river info just ask. Oh, one other thing north of  Morrisville is non tidal, Depending on the run off from up north the water level you see is it, in July with little rain you can walk in waders to the islands around Scudders falls. PENNSYLVANIA EXEMPT FROM NATIONAL SALTWATER REGISTRY FOR 2011. PFBC 2011 released on January 19, 2011 that PA anglers will be exempt from the saltwater registry for the 2011 season on the Delaware River for stripers, shad and herring. -Does anyone know about this? Can't find confirmation, imagine from Calhoun south. Anyone

If you have a SWL from another state i.e. NY, DE  then you do not need to register with the Feds, that's what I can tell u. Maybe someone knows more about what PA is doing.
