Thanks for the report Capt. Boom.
So I guess it's hit or miss off NJ and better consistency up North out east by Block and Mountauk.

I was on the J2 on Wed for cod. Sorry I didn't report. There definitely were some nice cod caught! My group of 4 which included my brother Larry,Canal Chris,Kirk, and myself caught 14 cod to about 7lbs and 3 ling. Also some dogs and ocean pout. Kirk was high hook with 6 cod and the 3 ling.  The boat as a whole did great but as sometimes happens some catch well and others don't. A few cod were jigged on the boat ,bait/clams accounted for most fish. Kind of a nice day until 11 AM when the south winds picked up. The cod didn't care as some nice were caught in the roughest conditions. That's when I dropped my chance at the pool. Had a real good fish about half way up when I dropped her/ OH well!!!!

Block Island cod is worth the trip but we have some nice fishing right here in NJ. Seems like some better size fish are mixing in with the 3-6lb fish too! I'll be looking for the next window of reasonable conditions and going again  ;D

This was a representative day of cod fishing for this winter.  I have been out 7 times in NJ so far, always getting 3 to 7 keepers other than an outlier trip on the Norma K on Sat where I had 33.  The big fish still alluded me and I got to see John drop a nice one, probably not the money fish, but a high teens fish, double the size of anything I had.
