The Season has begun.
« on: March 16, 2011, 02:08:53 PM »
Although it is not in the surf but today there were 3 striped bass caught in the middle portion of Barnagate Bay.  2 10 & 15# caught off Good Luck Point and one 10# bass caught just north of the Mathis bridge.

Both were caught using artificials 2 on a popper and the other using a purple Bomber.

Man I have to get the kayak ready now...

Happy Catching

Paul

I stopped by both shops today and it seems like we will be getting bust earlier this season.  The catch usually starts around now but there is no size to them.  This year it seems like there are bigger bass around earlier.  Which is a good thing.

Paul over at Grumpy's was working on the walk in refer as he is expecting fresh clams in for the weekend.

Well I just might have to hit the back of IBSP in the morning.  Throw on the waders and trudge out and see what the flats have to offer.  First stop is the canoe and kayak launch across from area A20.

Any one game?

Good luck Paul.
I'd love to go out tomorrow, but I gotta get some things done.
I'm thinking by early next week things should be good with the next few days being warm and sunny TT^

I knew I should have spent some time tossing swimmers yesterday. Spent the whole time fishing bait ( errr...feeding the flounder blood worms). The bay water was at 46 yesterday at the end of outgoing

No, I had everything with me...light action rod, fin-s, swimmers, small poppers but i kept the bait rod in my hands the whole time. I figured with all the attention bloods were seeing from the flounder I figured a bass with it's tail facing the sky was sure to come along and I didn't want to miss a soft bite or gut hook a short.  Oh well, at a dollar a piece those will likely be the last bloodworms I buy for a while. Back to artificials  fcp

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.

Well, went out today and fished the back part of IBSP before sunup.  Had some good hits ans some real light taps, more like bumps but nothing for me yet.  I did see 3 bass caught in the Toms River but all were on blood worms and all were keepers.

So if you go, it is still swimmers like the 5 or 6" bombers in yellow and white or the school bus color.  The key is to get out before sunup.  Once it got light the bumps and taps all stopped.

Plus they are catching white perch up in the river as I type.

Happy Catching
