Heading out for first time this weekend
« on: April 19, 2011, 08:37:16 PM »
Hey guys i am going to give surf fishing a try this weekend.  Thinking about going to Bringatein or surroounding area on Friday afer work and staying into the wee hours of Saturday morning.  Any hot spots that you know of in that area?  What would be the best time to fish this weekend (tides?).  Also what bait or lures are best this time of year?  thanks for your help.

Don't know the area down there.  Most logs in the B&T shops up here are showing clams being on the ticket up here so have some on hand.  Good luck!

Right now Graveling Point is a hot spot for Drum, Stripers and I heard of 1 Blue  caught out there.  Worth a try.

If that area down there is where you fish THEN you should be at Graveling Point and up and down the Mullica River...plain and simple  ;)

What tide should I be fishing this weekend?  Any artificials that you would recommend (poppers, rapalas, bombers, dirty dicks?)

Out front is a clam game, out back, clams, bloodworms, and some swimmer type baits...Bombers, rapalas, and stuff like that.

Thanks Joe, I will be hitting graveling point this Saturday and will give a report.  I called the local bait shop and they said the fishing has been "phenomenal".  He also said some drum are being caught.

Went up to Mystic Islands On Saturday with my son 10y.o.  Went to the local bait shop to get some clams and to see how to get to Graveling point.  He told me that my son would need chest waders because would have to cross a stream to get out to the point.  So we fished in the bay "Great Bay", it was nice we were able to park about 30 yards from the bay and it was a grassy are very easily accessible.  No luck, some people around us caught some shorts but it was nice to get out.

Does anyone know how to get to Mullica river?
