FishBones hits the Bay
« on: April 28, 2011, 09:08:21 AM »
Had mechanic look at the Evinrude, would not idle below 1200 rpm. He made adjustments but on the hose, he said it may not idle under load and if not I need a carb rebuild. He told me to try and blow it out on the water.
I did as told and took a half bushel of clams with me.

Well the carbs are going to get rebuilt next week, but there were stripers to be had, had non stop action for two hours on the hook near the Coast Guard station. At least 6 just under 28", and two keeps at 32 and 30 inches. Three monster run offs and one good size girl lost right at the boat.
Left my camera home but got this shot just before cleaning time.
Ran into my buddy Pilot 2550 just when he was pulling the hook, sweet looking boat.

You should try Mercury quick kleen. I had a hard time idling last year. Mixed a container of it with 2 gal gas. Disconnected the main tank hooked up the 2 gal and ran it. Cleaned it up.

Thanks for the advise Reckless, have done the same in the past. I don't believe I have a clogg or varnish situation though.
The carbs have never been touched, it's a 97 motor, it's way over due to have a rebuild kit on it.
I believe I may have vacuum or seal type of thing going on, at higher rpm, above say 1200 it runs like a swiss watch all the way to 5500 , just will not idle. Wayne at Twin Lights says the mechanic Steve is real good, he will sort it out.
I just hope that he finds it before my wallet runs out.
