Got my limit of fluke on Sea Hawk today 6/9
« on: June 09, 2011, 06:59:04 PM »
Was a hot one out there today.  thud

Managed my limit of fluke with some nice 3.5-4# fish in the mix. Jumbo sundial too Some blues as well. Buckatiled all day from 1oz to 4oz jigs with and without teasers. Half came on a gulp shrimp hung on the teaser above the jig, half on 4" swim mullet on the bucktail.

Day almost was horrible as I dropped my favorite bucktail stick in the water. Sunscreen and sweat...swing and slip. Thankfully guy on the other side caught up with the line. Pulled up the rod and I reeled in a short still attached.

Some nice sized fish were caught today. Seemed bait and bucktails all worked pretty well. Plenty of shorts as well. Sea robins, some skates, sundials, and bluefish rounded out the day.

AC in the cabin was a welcomed treat as well chrz

Re: Got my limit of fluke on Sea Hawk today 6/9 - About that teaser?

Would you be willing to share how far above the bucktail you tie your leader for the teaser and how long a teaser? I have an old rig with a leader tied about 4 inches above the bucktail and a leader of about 2 feet to the teaser. The teaser is an 1/8 oz bucktail. Works well but usually just takes fish on the teaser.

Yep, the Sea Hawk has AC in the cabin  chrz

I tie a dropper loop so my teaser hook hangs about 12" above the bucktail.  I fish braid tied to a mono leader via a connection knot(uni to uni, Alberto, yucatan, etc) The leader gets the dropper loop and then the jig goes on the end via no-slip loop knot.

Dropper loop should be just big enough so you can slip the loop through the eye of the hook or lure and around it to secure it on.  I usually use a hook with some bucktail on it aka a dressed hook aka fly.

White/pink/flash is my favorite.  Tipped with 4" Gulp shrimp worked well.  Fluke were gorging on shrimp and rainfish fyi.  A few I saw filleted seemed to have dined on someone's killies too.
